The Authors Point of View
The book ‘Intergalactic Space Farting Koalas’ is based on the experience of its author, Marcus. Marcus has worked professionally with koalas over 25 years, from housing them to feeding them, to today, where he has his own koala consulting business.
Marcus’ long-term approach to supporting koalas is risk prevention. In his professional opinion, it is important to reduce every known possible risk. Prevention work is based on a long term program, rather than a short term, view. Large businesses and other major bodies of influence need to be educated that long term thinking is the best way forward.
This book represents the drama and work involved, and the many discussions koala keepers and management have on a daily basis.
The story includes information on the best way to house and feed koalas so that koalas mental and physical health is ensured.
It is estimated that koalas have lived on Earth for 25-30 million years, and in their current form for about 4.5 to 2 million years ago. This means that koalas have been dealing with environmental changes millions of years prior to humans. It’s only in the last 240 years that these environmental changes have been speeding up due to human intervention. These changes exceed even the ability of koalas to adapt. It’s a form of evolution that’s been forced upon koalas by humans.
Human survival instinct has tipped the scales, of most, if not all wildlife in the world!. It’s a balancing act in itself, but unfortunately humankind Emotions is out of balance here, and Logic is too weak at the momnet.
At the beginning of European settlement, the settlers relied on the food from the native environment, from animals and the soils. Now on the other hand, as knowledge and technologies continue to advance, we’ve become out of balance with nature herself.
In addition, as our human population increases, the solution to our present and future problems and concerns can be found in the very thing that supported European settlement in the first place, an intact functioning environment.
The gap between society and the environmental pressures is ever-increasing. We need to reduce this gap and begin to recognise that we rely too much on our old ways of life, rather embracing a new form of living. Mother nature herself, keeps reminding us. A healthy natural environment is a small fire, a small storm, a day of good rainfall, not this heavy and intense weather patterns and the frequency in which this waether patterns happens. These are all signs that their too much Carbon in the atmosphere, that can't escape into space, so its balance back into our sky's and the air that surrounds the earth, increase carbon means koalas will die.
The short stories and book explain how to get koalas back on track. Koalas are only as strong as their environment. Our native animals are an indicator of the health of our environment.
We need to create the ultimate platform, whereby humans are one with the environment. This can only be achieved by placing the Australian human population in its rightful position, behind our native plants and wildlife. To get it right, we need to set up the right platform that supports independent and applied science rather than one simplistic branch of science that dominates all others.
