Jack
Jack is a young male koala from the bush. He is handed the title of Alpha Koala after the birth of his joey girl and is challenged immediately; his first task is to guide his colony of 30 koalas out of danger.
Yet, Jack’s family history presents an even bigger challenge to Jack, as he feels the pressure of growing responsibility. Jack is about to find out that his life will be turned inside out.
Kelly
Kelly is Jack’s equal in every sense. Kelly knows Jack well and is a big support when Jack is faced with taking on a leadership role.
She can anticipate his actions and reactions and provides guidance to him. Her responsibilities increase with the birth of their Joey.
Joey
Joey is the first offspring of Kelly and Jack. She came out of her mother’s pouch a month early, eager to get on with it! Joey is yet to be named.
Uncle Bob
Uncle Bob is the oldest offspring in his family. He is 12 months older than his younger brother Pop. Bob isn’t comfortable just sitting around. He likes to explore new and different environments and spends much of his time travelling. This is the reason why he isn’t the colony leader. He’s never around.
Yet, what he’s lost in hierarchy within his own colony, he has gained in knowledge and survival skills. He knows how to handle himself with humans and generally has great listening skills, which is not a trait his younger brother (Pop) has.
Bob isn’t afraid to move into the unknown, but as he’s matures in age, his physical abilities have slowed down, he’s become more cautious and thoughtful.
Jack’s Dad, Pop
Pop is Jack’s Dad and younger brother to Bob. Pop is the leader of the 30 strong koala group from Putty Putty Road. In the short time frame in which koalas live, and after the birth of his grande-daughter, Pop hands over part of his responsibilities to his son, Jack, to support him while a transition of leaders occurs.
Their relationship has been fractured, but with the big bushfire threat on the horizon, they are put to aside.
Jack’s Mother
Jack’s Mother, is always in the background supporting her family, including her partner Pop. She had twins, Jack being one of them. She lost Jack’s brother in the first ever bushfire she was in after giving birth.
Strong and independent, just like her partner Pop, she always works hard where ever she can, looking after her family and others.
Jack’s Grand Pa & Jack’s Grand Mom
Jack’s Grandparents come from a unique ancestral bloodline. They played a very important role in Jack’s up-bringing. They supported his mum and dad against threats from humans, dogs, wild cats and cars.
Without them, the family wouldn’t understand their history, including their own ancestry connection to the most famous tree on Earth, Big Grey.
Kelly’s Dad, Jeff
Jeff is Kelly’s Dad and the grandfather of her newborn joey-girl. Jeff grew up in a different, neighbouring group to Jack’s. Jeff, Kelly and the others of their family group weren’t brought up to leave their habitat as fast as Jack’s family. Jeff’s family is used to living in a much smaller home-range compared to Jack’s family. Therefore, Jeff finds himself a little more unsure when entering new areas, in particular while under pressure. His background is definitely more conservative than Jack’s family.
